A Travel Exclusive: The Car Exam Flies to Washington State
The Car Exam typically does stories about driving and the auto industry, but this one will be different. Recently, I flew to Washington State for the first time ever and had an opportunity to see to a part of the country I had never experienced before. Although my stay was business-oriented, he did have an opportunity to see some beautiful sites. I also met up with an old friend I had not seen for many years, and caught up on the past, as well as the present.
Although the weather was extremely chilly for a guy used to warm climates (I’m now sick with an extremely sore throat, ear ache, etc. post Washington), it was beautiful place. I had a chance to visit Silverdale, Bremerton, as well as Seattle briefly. Bremerton is a Navy town with a rich history and lots of scenic history. Silverdale exemplifies Washington State, with lots of lush, green landscape and scenic beauty.
The area is full of trees, surrounded by mountains in the distance. If it were not for the northwest chill and rain, I would find it a perfect place to live. Temperatures were typically in the 40’s and 50’s, and I must admit, while I dressed properly for the three full days I was there, I was still cold. I’m not sure I could adjust to such a climate for a long period of time; growing up in the Midwest as I did is even a different animal. Adjusting to the Southern California climate as a teenager was easy--however, adjusting to the chill of late April in Washington State wouldn’t be for me.
Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place, and if you need warmth like I do, visit during the summertime. While I didn’t have a chance to see much of Seattle, I did see some of it. I took the ferry from Bremerton to Seattle, and that was a great experience. It was early evening, and very windy and cold on the outside of the ferry, but the ride was worth the experience. The evening darkness arrived during the ferry ride, and I allowed me to see the downtown Seattle skyline at night, which included the famous Space Needle. It was simply gorgeous.
On the way to my final motel destination across from Sea-Tac Airport (I’ll omit the name—it was so bad, I’ll spare them the embarrassment), I went past Qwest Field (the football stadium for the Seahawks) and Safeco Field (the home of the Mariners—they were even in town that night playing a game). Quest Field and Safeco Field sit side-by-side, so both were very easy to see.
While I was there on business for the most part, what I did see of Washington State was beautiful. I do plan to visit there again, but next time it will be when it is warm, and when I’ll hopefully do a road test for The Car Exam. Even though I got sick, having an opportunity to see Washington State for the first time was worth the trip. If you haven’t been there, you should make it a point to visit sometime. It’s a visit well worth the time to make.
